Senior Backend Engineer Python and IoT
Project details:
You will join a project focused on modernizing an industrial IoT and telematics platform. The main objective is to redesign device connectivity, modernize configuration services, and migrate legacy components to a secure, scalable cloud architecture.
You will work with the customer’s engineering teams to develop Python backend services, improve industrial device communication, and implement secure IoT integrations.
Project duration: Approx. 8 months, full-time

Key responsibilities:
- Design and develop backend services using Python and FastAPI
- Modernize industrial IoT connectivity and Modbus device integration
- Develop and maintain device configuration services
- Implement MQTT communication and AWS IoT Core integrations
- Configure secure device authentication using certificates and TLS
- Migrate legacy device configurations and data processing pipelines
- Separate customer-facing and administrative functionalities
- Replace legacy integrations, including RabbitMQ and Beckhoff dependencies
- Develop and maintain REST APIs and data integrations
- Perform integration testing, device simulation, and migration validation
- Prepare technical documentation and support knowledge transfer
Expectations:
- 5+ years of professional experience in Backend Software Development
- Strong proficiency in Python and FastAPI
- Hands-on experience with industrial IoT systems and device connectivity
- Knowledge of Modbus TCP/RTU and MQTT protocols
- Experience with AWS IoT Core and cloud-based IoT integrations
- Good understanding of TLS, certificates, and secure device authentication
- Experience with PostgreSQL and REST APIs
- Familiarity with Linux and Docker
- Experience with data integration and processing pipelines
- Knowledge of device communication, error handling, and reconnection mechanisms
- Good command of English
Nice to have:
- Experience with Protocol Buffers and Parquet
- Familiarity with Beckhoff industrial automation systems
- Experience with AWS Connect
- Knowledge of IoT gateways and firmware integrations
